When we purchase items for our children, we assume that the government has done a great job ensuring that the item is safe. The truth is, chemicals remain in the everyday items we have in our homes until they are proven to be harmful. These chemicals are not typically tested for toxicity BEFORE they are used in items such as crib mattresses, they are tested once there is a suspected problem. Unfortunately the testing carried out by government agencies can take a long time. By the time a chemical is proven to be harmful it could have been in household items for years. It can also take government agencies years to set up new guidelines for manufacturers. Seems to me that there is a real disconnect here…don’t you want to know that the items in your home are safe? Thankfully, there are many alternatives currently available on the market that don’t contain industrial chemicals.
