Up to 77% of male fish in US River showing female traits

A recent study has shown that up to 77% of male fish in the Potomac River are showing female traits, such as the ability to produce eggs.  Scientists don’t yet have a handle on WHY this is occuring.  It is suspected that birth control pills being flushed down toilets are making their way into the water.  Another theory is that household cleaning products are polluting the water.  Whatever the reason, there is no question that there is some sort of pollutant that is creating these changes.
