Susan Alexander, Psychotherapist
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
“These pains you feel are messengers. Listen to them” ~Rumi
Susan completed her M.A. in Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Spirituality at St. Paul University after working as a massage therapist for 23 years, witnessing how stress and unhealed trauma often manifest as physical pain, anxiety, or depression. If you feel overwhelmed, alone, or frustrated with life, then maybe it is time to talk to Susan.
Psychotherapy is a collaborative relationship where you can talk to a therapist without fear of judgement or criticism. Most of us are never taught how to communicate our needs, manage overwhelming emotions, enforce healthy boundaries, or to love and accept ourselves. We often function on autopilot, acting out scripts from childhood without realizing that we have the power to make different choices as adults. Susan can help you to set therapeutic goals based on your values, explore new perspectives, challenge limiting beliefs, improve your relationships, and live with more awareness, self-compassion, joy, and courage.
Susan welcomes individual clients of all genders (ages 16+) for in-person, online or telephone therapy at Back in Balance. She works from a client-centered, anti-oppressive framework and integrates cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), motivational interviewing (MI), mindfulness, attachment theory, parts work, and psychodynamic approaches.
Susan has lived in ten cities and travelled in 30 countries but feels extremely blessed to be raising her son on the traditional and unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin people in beautiful Ottawa.
