Registered Massage Therapist & Osteopathic Manual Practitioner
Meet Rachel:
Rachel has been a practicing Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) since 2003 and is thrilled to bring her extensive experience and compassionate care to the Ottawa community after relocating from Toronto.
With a career spanning over two decades, Rachel has explored many avenues of manual therapy, always guided by a deep commitment to helping people feel better in their bodies. Over time, she felt there was more to the story of healing and wanted to explore a deeper, more holistic understanding of the body and its natural capacity to heal itself. This led her to return to school in 2016 to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (OMP).
Since 2017, Rachel has practiced as both an OMP and an RMT. Studying osteopathy has greatly enriched her massage therapy practice, allowing her to offer clients two complementary disciplines within her care — a rare and valuable duality for treatment.
Rachel is trained in myofascial release, craniosacral therapy (Upledger Institute), and visceral manipulation (Barral Institute). She specializes in craniosacral osteopathy, a gentle yet profound approach that has a deep calming effect on the nervous system while helping to ease restrictions within the fascia and structural tissues. She has developed a particular interest in supporting individuals living with chronic pain conditions.
Earlier in her career, Rachel worked with Ironman athletes, triathletes, and running clubs, gaining firsthand insight into sports performance, injury prevention, and recovery. She later had the privilege of supporting cancer patients through all phases of treatment—a deeply meaningful chapter of her professional journey.
Her clinical experience includes working with those experiencing migraines, chronic headaches, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and rehabilitation following accidents or injuries. Having personally navigated recovery after being in a wheelchair twice, Rachel brings lived experience, empathy, and a nuanced understanding of the healing process to her treatments.
In addition to her clinical practice, Rachel spent two years teaching at the National Academy of Osteopathy as a Professor of Cranial Osteopathy and Osteopathic Soft Tissue. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from Brock University.
Now settled in Ottawa, Rachel is excited to explore the city and connect with the local community. She looks forward to supporting her clients at Back in Balance by offering the combined benefits of massage therapy and osteopathy—providing thoughtful, individualized care that promotes long-term healing, function, and wellbeing.
